Castlevania Legends (1997) is an action-platformer for the Game Boy that features Sonia Belmont, the first female protagonist in the series, as she hunts Count Dracula in 1450. Originally intended as an origin story for the Belmont clan and their feud with Dracula, it was later removed from the official series canon.

Set in 15th-century Transylvania, the plot follows a 17-year-old Sonia who ventures to Dracula's castle after her home is destroyed. Along the way, she encounters Alucard, Dracula's son, with whom she shares a romantic bond. The game's ending famously suggests that Sonia's child—implied to be fathered by Alucard—is the one who continues the Belmont legacy.
